Hungersnot
8 July 2026
Sometimes my head aches for things that don’t exist: rain in a drought, mothers without tempers, daughters born easy and single-mouthed, unbitten. I bury these wishes in the garden, pressing them into the mud with my heel. When the moon is wrong— full, fat, molar-white— I dig them up again. Nothing stays buried. Not even hunger.
