The Conjuring

7 August 2026

I couldn’t sleep for days because I wanted you. I put a bowl full of birthright on the kitchen table. The goldfinch in my dream had one wrong spot, red like the heart of Christ, a good omen. She was snared on a bird-limed twig, double good. I bought a bag of Zapotec nests down at the Farmacia Million Dollar down at the corner of 3rd & Broadway, snuck into your house, & rolled one like a little tumbleweed under your bed. Then, on an impulse I stole your laptop, but I began to shake from fear, the heartbeat’s suspense, blood concussing my chest halfway down the street, so I brought it back. Come here, I mouthed, come pet my cream -colored courser, buttermilk body in my womb. & you did. Just like that. In the morning, you said Everything was bright. & you repeated it, Everything was bright.
